Does vintage jewelry do well?
Q.I have a real interest in vintage jewelry having seen some beautiful pieces at estate sales that I bought for myself but was just wondering if any of you sell vintage jewelry on Ebay or Yahoo and if you do well with it?
A.I am selling a bunch of vintage costume jewelry right now and it is doing great! I aquired a trash bag full of the stuff and I really do'nt know much about it. I put up a few auctions and have bene pleasantly surprised. An unsigned necklace/bracelet set I have up right now is going for 17$ with still a few days left! My ID is 'peanutbuttersandwich' if you want to see how my stuff is doing. I have about 200 more items to list and it seems to be pretty profitable so far. Most often, brand-name costume jewelry (Trifari, Monet, Eisenberg, etc). Signed items generally sell for twice what unsigned ones do -- unless the unsigned item can be identified by manufacturer. Real jewelry normally has only markings indicating the percentage of silver or the karat value of gold. Hand-made (crafter, artist) items can have some value, if the maker is well-known.
