Bridal Party Jewelry

Q.Does anyone have any good ideas for bridesmaids gifts? Someone said I should try to get something personal for each girl, but that seems too difficult and I'm tired of the same old stuff. Any unique ideas?

A.My husband and I went to a store called Things Rememberedto get our attendants' gifts. I'm not sure if there are locations in all 50 states, but they do have a catalog. And, if you order $200 or more they send you a free silver picture album engraved w/ your names & date. Anyhow, he decided to get "personal" gifts (i.e. different gifts for each guy) and I got the same gift for each of my BM's. They were velvet lined, cobalt blue wooden boxes with silver plates on top, meant to be photo boxes, but pretty enough to be jewelry boxes. I had Things Remembered engrave each box with the girls' initials (a really pretty, swirly script... up to four characters per box were free.) They loved the boxes! I gave them to the girls at the BM dinner with their earrings & necklaces inside (gorgeous Monet faux pearls that I got at a Memorial Day sale at a local dept. store. They cost me $35 for 5 sets! A steal!) . The boxes cost $25 a piece. As a funny aside, a couple of weeks ago I was at a "Merchandise Madness" sale at the local fairgrounds and saw the boxes, unengraved, for $2 apiece. A little beaten up & scratched, but I bought a maroon one for my own jewelry. If we'd only gotten married in June.... Think personal variations on a single theme. Everyone gets a different book. Everyone gets the same jewelry, but set with her own birthstone. Everyone gets the same candleholder or vase but in her favorite color (and maybe with her name or monogram engraved). In fact, anything monogrammed accomplishes this purpose, which is why engraved thingamajigs are so popular as wedding party gifts.
