Cheap Wedding Jewelry
Q.Thinking of getting married for first time. Any ideas on how to keep the cost of wedding rings down? Is buying online from Zales say cheaper than buying in a store? I don't mind spending some money on rings.... but don't want to overpay for them and I know NOTHING abt jewelry.
A.Pawn shops are worth a try. Also, keep in mind that 10K jewelry is not real gold. If you are going to buy 10K, instead might as well buy vermeil (24 karat over sterling silver). Neither is worth anything so don't pay a lot. Vermeil is frequently on sale at Kmart etc. Both are cheap, cheap. A wedding ring is a simple "gold" band. As it is worn as a ring, I don't necessarily advise expensive jewelry for a gold band. 10K is durable although "fake." The best compromise -- "real" gold but still durable -- is 14K. There is no reason a wedding band should cost a lot of money, if nothing else, scan the pawn shops and do a simple purification ritual to remove any negative vibes. You should do this with "new" gold too, since gold is sometimes mined under exploitative conditions. If you are inquiring about *engagement* rings, a stone is generally expected. To a certain degree, the stone in question depends on your intended. Many, many Americans are brainwashed into believing that a diamond is the only engagement stone. Diamonds are actually quite common, with their price artificially held back by the suppliers. Until the early 20th century, no one automatically expected a diamond as an engagement stone; you would chose the stone based on your intended's astrological signs, likes and dislikes, and so on. How (fake) traditional is your intended? If she believes late 20th century mythology, she might not realize that a diamond was not the engagement stone for virtually all of history, so...you gotta getta diamond. If she is more open-minded, please consult with her about her favorite stones. She's the one who's gonna be wearing it the rest of her life.
