I snagged my wedding ring finger on a fence yesterday... ?

Q.I was on my way home (walking) and cut across a parking lot, until I stumbled upon a chain link fence. I would have had to backtrack 5 minutes in order to get to the sidewalk but decided to jump the fence instead. From what I could see, the fence has been climbed over by others since it was slightly bent. As I climbed over and started to climb down, I arrived at the point where I only needed to jump 2 feet down. Unbeknownst to me, my wedding ring finger was snagged on a loose section of the fence, as I came down, my wedding ring had to find a way off of my finger, so it ripped off several layers of skin. By all reasoning, my finger should have broke off but thankfully it did not.

A.When I got married, my wife asked me what kind of wedding ring I was going to get. I told her that I wasn't going to wear a ring. I have had horrendous luck with rings, watches, etc. None had ever lasted more than two months for me. Some only lasted a number of days. And each time anything happened with a ring, I got hurt. After explaining this to her, she understood. My wife is a nurse and they can't wear their ring when working. So most of them attach the ring to their clothes with a safety pin. And a number of very expensive rings have gone missing. So more and more of the nurses are not wearing their rings to work. A couple have even been wearing a cheap knock off of their "real" wedding ring. i never understood the whole concept of rings anyway. Many folks I know make their living around machinery. Rings, watches, etc can be deadly around machinery. I consider rings to be a hazard to me and others. And I have no problem being married or telling people I am married. A hunk of metal around the finger is what I object to, for safety reasons. My situation is similar. I used to teach college music theory full time, and was never comfortable wearing a ring or a watch while I played the piano, and I had to play the piano all the time. I kept taking off my ring and watch and leaving them on the piano and nearly lost one, the other, or both several times. My wedding ring has been sitting in a drawer since.
