Costco Diamond Ring, Good Deal?
Q.I am considering buying a diamond engagement ring at Costco. Sounds like a pretty good deal, but wanted to get your opinion. Here are the details: Carat: 1.00 Clarity: at least VS2 Color: at least I Cut: Princess Price: $3,800 - - stone is set on a "simple" platinum tiffany band Costco also guarantees that the appraised retail value will be at least twice the purchase price. So what do you all think, is this a "good deal"?? -

I can't tell you specifics, I've just read about it on the web but it has to do with the measurements of the various facets in relationship to each other. So... while the VS2/I comparison price may be much lower than others you see, it may be a lesser quality because the cut (and I don't mean Princess here) is not as good. On the other hand... Jewelry is one of the biggest rip-offs in the world in terms of mark-ups. I'd **never** buy at Macy's for instance, because their mark-ups are obscene. And just because it's Costco does not necessarily mean it's "cheap". I highly recommend you do your research. Make sure you have a money back guarantee. Make sure you have the certificate (GIA, etc.). Then, have it appraised (you should anyway for insurance purposes).
