Craft fair frustrations

Q.It's true that I could have had a better location; I should have asked for a booth in the fine arts section rather than the crafts, and then I would have had people walk by who were looking for the unique and not mundane. But as much as love making jewelry, I'm not sure I like selling it at craft fair booths. (This was my second craft fair; my first, in the student union of the university that employs me, was somewhat more successful, but still could have been better.) Does anyone have any encouraging thoughts on craft fairs? Do you do better on one of a kind jewelry if you go to fairs in larger cities? I can't afford to make jewelry all the time if I can't ever sell any of it; and it's so much fun to make!

A.Two newspapers, one local, one which covers the Northern part of my state, did articles on the exhibit. From that publicity I got several calls asking me to speak to different groups. I put together a little talk about how I got interested in beads, and a short history of beads, followed by a demonstration of beading. I also had a display of jewelry for sale, which sold fairly well. I gave out my cards and I still get calls from people who were at my lectures Two newspapers, one local, one which covers the Northern part of my state, did articles on the exhibit. Maybe others out there have some more suggestions for "creative self-promotion." Here are 2 little tips: always give hand-crafted jewelry to your kids' teachers for gifts and be sure to put your card in there. Word gets around. Also, donate one of your pieces to charitable events when possible and be sure to put your card with the piece. Again, word gets around! I hope this starts up a good thread on different ways to sell your jewelry and promote yourself as a craftsperson!
