Diamond Drop Necklace.
Q.I can say with considerable authority that Gloria did in fact drop at least three prop Hearts of the Ocean into the real, live Atlantic. Naturally, they were cheap fakes. I'd also heard that the shot from underwater showing her drop it overboard was done in the studio. Do you happen to know?
A.The quality is that of nice costume jewelry, very nice in my opinion. The pendent consists of the blue heart-shaped stone, outlined with shining faux diamonds, which are set in a platinum/sliver looking material. According to J. Peterman this is Rhodium. There is no hole cut in the plate behind the stone like there was in the film. I think this might have been done because the stone used for the replica in not as pure, or rather as deep blue at the one in the film. However, when the light enters it from the sides, instead of from behind, it looks a much deeper blue. The chain is 18" long (I measured to be sure.), and is made up of larger faux diamond than those used to outline the stone. These come to a point where the pendent attaches, where there is a larger tear-drop shaped faux diamond. The pendent attaches to the chain by hanging on a hook attached to the tear-drop shaped diamond. There is no claps for fastening the pendent to the chain, you simply slip the loop of the pendent onto the hook and it hangs there (so you probably should be careful that you don't drop the pendent off of it). The clasp on the chain is like that found on most nice watches. It opens from one side, then folds over the other end of the chain, and then locks.
