Q.I have the same problems with earrings and metal allergies... I second the idea of not piercing kids' ears until they're old enough to take care of them by themselves. In addition to the choking potential, babies tend to pull at things that feel interesting, and there's the risk of her actually ripping her own earlobe by pulling on the earring. Tell your girlfriend that if she really wants to do something fashion-forward for her daughter, she can always get her tattooed...after all, if she doesn't like it later, there are laser treatments to get rid of them, right?

A.my sister had her ears pierced about a month after birth. i got my ears pierced around the age of four. my parents are from ecuador and it was/is common for hispanics to do this. do we resent our parents for doing this? NO. do we have metal allergies? NO. our earring holes are right smack in the center of the lobe where they put them over 30 years ago. the only problem was that i kept loosing very expensive earrings than my grandfather (a jeweler) handmade. I personally was not degrading other cultures and I resent you implying that. I realize that in some cultures in the world it is not only acceptalbe but required/desired to have infant/childerns ears pierced. But the person who put in the original post was not any nationality specifically. From his post I gathered that he was a Western male. This assumption may have been wrong but it was not specified so I gave my own opinion as a person of Western culture and upbringing. And as I stated in my post, the opinions .
