Totally OT...Diamond Stores
Q.My husband and I are getting ready to have our 10th anniversary. My husband is buying me a Channel Anniversary Band. I wanted to know if anyone has had good luck with one particular store? BTW..I live in the US.
A.Talk to people in your area about it, stay away from chain stores (crappy quality & *very* inflated prices). Try to find a locally owned place with a good reputation. You're more likely to get quality jewelry at a reasonable price there than at a chain store where everything is done on bulk. See if there's a diamond or jewelry district in any of the major cities near you. My ring came from 47th st. in New York, DH spent all day shopping for it at the numerous small shops. Boston, Philadelphia and San Francisco all have jewelry districts. Have your ring appraised at an independent appraisers office, preferably one who is GIA or IGA certified. While it does seem like an excellent deal, I know *way* too many people who've purchased "diamonds" on ebay that ended up not being genuine and even more who purchased a real diamond that was no where near the quality described in the auction. My engagment ring & wedding band weren't much more than DH would have paid on eBay but were purchased locally from a reputable jeweler who stands by his work. It was well worth the extra money to have that assurance
