Talking about Hammered Silver Jewelry

Q.I'm learning how to make beaded wire jewelry. I've learned the basics so far--loops, wrapping, scrolls, and a really nifty double-wire hook clasp. Tried hammering wire and discovered I need larger silver wire and a better hammering surface Kirsten

A.-So after cleaning the beads (they were strung on twine) I strung a necklace--one large faceted amethyst glass bead, two small clear AB faceted beads, etc. all around. The clasp and ring I used are black metal. I had four amethyst beads left over, so I found some pretty black metal Victorian-style earring wires and using black metal eye pins hung one bead from each. They look really nice, but I'm considering how to add a longer strand with clear faceted AB plastic beads and the other two amethyst beads, perhaps fashioning a circle around the first bead so it won't get bumped. -I have a neice who is 11 years old and simply mad for LOTR. So, for a while now I have been working on an "Arwen" crown for her. The whole thing was quite tricky, since I don't know how to solder or do any other metal working. It is constructed using basic wire wrapping and other jewelry making techniques. I wanted it to look graceful, delicate, and as authentically 'elvish' as possible, so I went with a sort of butterfly design and added the hanging crystal strands that Arwen wore in the ceremony at the end of ROTK. Like the one in the movie, the crystal strands on this are detachable. I used very small spring ring clasps. I also added an extender chain with fob on it so that she can adjust the size for different hair styles, and so that it can grow with her. I wanted it to be a very special gift, so I only used siver wire, findings and Austrian crystals. You will be able to tell from the pics that I am NOT a photographer. I wanted to show how it sparkles and catches the light, but it really made it wind up looking washed out. All questions and comments are welcome, as this is the first time I have done any wire work on this scale.
