Titanium Wedding Bands
Q.In a recent cycling publication I saw a story about titanium wedding bands. I cannot remember where or when I saw this ad or story. I am getting married on the 27th and need to find info soon. A.I am an EMT and a captain in our fire department. I just took several ring sized chunks of titanium down to the station. Our equipment cut the rings without any problem. Sorry, but the "unremovable ring" is just another piece of folklore. I know nothing about Ti wedding bands, but I do have a few Ti hoop earings. Very cool looking -- sorta purple\green\silver all mixed together. I wish bike parts came in that color... But they're very soft and flexy (must be pretty low-grade). Don't want to participate in newsgroup hearsay, but didn't I read a warning about Ti wedding bands a few weeks back? Something like this: if for some reason the band must be cut off in a medical emergency, the tools normally used to cut rings won't cut Ti. Guess that's a new way to shave grams with titanium... lost fingers! I agree. If you're doing something that is inherently dangerous, take ALL jewelry (OK, leave the watch) off. Nothing like peeling your finger like a banana... Seriously. I spent nine years as a squid, most of that lurking in the briny deep as a submariner. The first thing I did every day after I got on the boat? Take off the wedding ring (YES, A Ti ONE!) and put it on my key chain.
