Loose Fancy Diamonds

Q.I am on the button in seat 10. Aggressive Guy in seat seven raises. I have a pair of nines and call. Small Blind calls as well so there are three of us. Flop come K T 3 with two diamonds. I know Aggressive Guy will bet any flop, so I reraise. My thinking is any nine will win for me and any diamond will let me win with a bluff, and maybe my nines are good. Small Blind and Aggressive Guy call - still three of us. I get the expected free card on the turn when an off suit blank falls. Another blank falls on the river and Aggressive Guy bets. I call and Small Blind folds (maybe the real flush draw?) . Aggressive Guy says "I have an ace" and I take the pot. There were a couple of raised eyebrows as I stacked the chips, and I booked a good winner for the day with some of the loose calls I subsequently got. Anyway, I know this seems a bit like a Roy Cooke story about how he sucked out on the tourist, but what do others think of my play?

A.I would rather play 99 (or any other middlish pair) heads-up against A.G. than three-way, so I would reraise to try to get the SB to fold. You're raising, not reraising here, but that's okay. We knew what you meant. I think this is a good play. If you get reraised, you'll have a better idea of the strength of your opponents' hands (unless they're bluffing, of course). With KT and two diamonds on the board, you need free cards far less than you need to avoid giving them. If you're going to call anyway on the river, use that $20 to bet here instead. You give yourself more chances of something good happening, specifically either (a) they may fold and hand you the pot right now, or (b) they may call and you win the pot on the river with $40 more in it than would otherwise be there. Checking here is a wimp play that gives your oppponents a chance to catch you. You're giving them infinite pot odds to pair up an A or Q, draw to a small set or two small pair, or make a flush or straight. There are a lot of things that could go wrong for you. So make them pay $20 for the privelege of beating you. Sounds just fine to me. Fancy play syndrome would be when you do this to people for no reason everytime a similar situation occurs. You had your reasons. I might have bet the turn and checked the river instead. But that's just me. I've played it out your way, too.
