Religious Jewelry StoreQ.I am a beginner at this field and would like to know where I could find the crafts that I need in local store? what kind of store I should be looking for? A.Spiritual supply stores come in many varieties and will carry different products, depending on the forms of magical work that their customers practice. For instance, New Age stores carry lots of crystals, pretty greeting cards, and candles. They may carry candles, but often those will be rainbow-coloured or decorative. There may be klots of statues of goddesses and fairies, and Celtic jewelry Metaphysical book stores carry lots of books. They may carry a line of metal talismans and jewelry and some of them also have statuary from assorted religious traditions. Pagan and Wiccan stores carry characteristic items such as athames (ceremonial knives) used in that tradition in addition to oils, a lot of jewelry, greeting cards, and many books African-American hooodoo shops carry lots of roots and herbs and certain characteristic items such as lodestones and red flannel bags that other spiritual supply stores may not handle. They will always have a very copious supply of candles, and they may also carry spell kits and sachet poweders, which other stores don;t stock. Mexican botanicas (herb stores) carry a ixture of herbs and articles used in folk-medicine and brujeria (folk-magic). Like the hoodoo stores, they usually have candles and sachet powders, and they may also stock unusual amulets, Catholic holy cards, and items designed for use on personal altars. Stores oriented toward African-diaspora religions, such as Santeria, Vodoun, and Palo, will carry similar items, but also handle religious stauary for the religion plus other speicific items such as cowrie shells or embroidered veves (symbols of the Vodoun deities). So first, before you decide what you need to buy, you need to look around at the wide world of magical traditions and see what draws you. Go to a few stores and talk to the people. Read a few books. Hang out in a newsgroup like this one and read the posts. Ask questions. Search the web. Here is a list i send out often to people who ask for general reference information from the various traditions of magic.
