Unique Engagement Ring Setting, using engagement ring as wedding ring??

Q.I'm getting married in March, and my fiance and I are trying to pick out wedding rings. I got a beautiful platinum ring with a plain band and a sapphire on either side of the diamond. It's simple and elegant. I love it. But I don't usually wear too much jewelry, and it seems strange to wear two rings on one finger. I've been looking for a wedding ring none the less, and was going to get another plain shiny band to wear behind the engagement ring, but I finally found one to try on, and it didn't look good. Also, it would have to be notched out to fit up against the ring. A band covered with baguette diamonds looks good behind the ring but I really think it's just too flashy. A jewler suggested I not get another band, but I was worried that people wouldn't realize I was married rather than just engaged. She said that since my ring was'nt just a solitare diamond, that it could pass for a wedding ring. What should I do? If I don't get another band, will it be wierd? Has anyone else done this?

A.I have a gorgeous wedding/engagement ring. It is an estate-like setting with a center diamond, flanked by two emeralds in bezzle settings. I don't wear a second band with it; it does not look like a typical wedding band, but it is, nonetheless, my wedding ring, fully blessed in our ceremony. To me, a wedding ring is simply a symbol of your vows. Some people choose not to wear one; this doesn't mean they are any less married. So, as long as you have a ring which will symbolize your marriage (/vows) to _you_, you don't have to have that simple gold band which most people use as a wedding ring; you'll have a unique ring. (Although some religions specify plain, unadorned bands, you didn't mention this as a problem.) I'm not sure what the clerk meant by it could 'pass' for a wedding ring. (If someone passed you on the street, they could instantly tell you are married because you wear a ring that people associate with marriage?) Well, my thought there is 'so what?' Your friends and family will know you are married; new acquaintances will discover this fact somewhere in the development of your relationship. As for what to do, I just had my nephew take the ring to Mark minutes before our ceremony. After our officiant blessed the rings, Mark slipped it back on my finger. And, at almost 11 months, we haven't had any problems. So,to answer your question, at least one other person has done this!
