Q.I'm engaged!... since this past Sunday in fact. Well, here's my question: What are your experiences with buying a wedding/engagement ring? We are going out this weekend to buy one. Don't know price range at the moment. Any suggestions? Comments? I'm definately going with a diamond of some sort, leaning toward a solitaire. Anybody got a silver instead of the traditional gold band/ring? Also what kind of price range did you all go with?
A.It sounds like you wear only silver, like me! You may have a hard time finding a silver ring if you go to a traditional type of jewelry store (a gallery might make one for you). I think in general, they don't put very expensive stones of any type into a silver settings (at least I have not seen any). I'm not sure about this, but I think it is because silver can be very soft, and it tarnishes. You can also go with white gold, or platinum. I went with white gold because it is less expensive (my ring was bought from a relative who is a jeweler, so I don't have any experience in buying them at a store). We will be buying our bands at a store, and just yesterday I was browsing at the mall to see what was out there, and I saw some bands and solitaires in white gold at most larger chain type stores. Sorry, but I did not check any prices. One problem with white gold- it can look slightly yellowish in certain light, so if you want something really silvery, go with platinum. But, platinum is very expensive.
